Skills Audit.

I have learnt so much from being in As media, for example:

This is an example of a blog that i have written during this course.
The main thing i learnt through media was to blog, as apart of the course we were expected to blog regularly. This was like a weekly diary where we kept up to date with work and basically step by step analysed all the work we had done as a group. This helped our group stay on top of tasks and recorded our groups journey from the start to finish of our Thriller sequence course.

Furthermore we learnt how to use the JVC GY-HM100 digital camera, how to put the memory card in and out of the camera, how to put the battery in and out of the camera and how do put the tripod up and down. This was taught to us in a during a health and safety tutorial given by Mary so we were better equipped when filming our opening sequence.

We also learnt bow to use the NDF filter button which took away the natural daylight and how to zoom in and out using the camera.
And lastly we learnt how to use the auto focus and manual focus on the camera,
- AUTOFOCUS: This is when the object or person closer to the camera automatically becomes blurred.
- MANUAL FOCUS: This is when you yourself make something blurred or clear using the camera.

This helped me and the rest of my group use the camera safely, and taught us how to make the most effective thriller opening possible.

This is an example of the camera we used.
we had to then make our own examples of different types of shots after learning how to use the camera,

This is an example of one of the many shots our groups took when we first practised filming.
This shot was taken in front of the window and the shot is too dark, this is because of the amount of sunlight which is coming from the camera lens. We could then after the tutorial make the shot better by re-taking it using the skills we had been taught and get rid of the natural daylight that was in the shot.

we learnt how to analyse a thriller opening, and about the different genres and sub genres in film, if a film used intertexuality and the different types of film openings. This helped when creating our own thriller opening as it gave us many ideas on how to approach our thriller as in what to put in it, what we were going to 'borrow' from other thrillers we had seen and what was needed in order to make it the best thriller we could make.

An example of intertexuality is The 'Psycho' shower scene. This scene has been borrowed and used among lots of more recent films for example 'The stepfather'

This is an example of a blog that i did on Intertextuality.

Furthermore, we learnt how to create Foley sound, this sound is used in the filming to enhance the auditory sound in the footage of everyday objects. This was incredibly useful as this is what is needed in order to create a successul thriller opening.
Here is an example of a group blog explaining what Foley sound is.
i also learnt how to create a PRELIM with the help of my team mates, this was to give us practise in making an opening sequence, every media student had to make one. This enabled us to pick up more skills and have a better understanding of how we could make our thriller opening effective and better.
Here are images that i took during filming of Rochelle and Hasan to record our work.

Here is my evaluation of the prelim our group filmed. Here i wrote how we could improve.

We were also taught the 180 degree rule!
This is a blog done by my group member Rochelle, it clearly outlines what the 180 degree rule is.
This rule made our thriller opening sequence a lot more accurate and effective throughout.

Here are some screen shots of our groups pitch to the rest of our class and our teachers informing them of the many different skills we picked up whilst filming that we each came up with together.

As you can see from taking this course i have picked up many skills and have learnt many things varying from camera skills to working in a group with great group members who i have bonded really well with over the progress of creating our thriller opening sequence.
